The first part of January was extremely busy at the Regional Development Association of East Central Kansas office. We are working on several projects. Due to confidentiality issues we can’t disclose any details at this time but it looks promising.
The RDA Board members are able to serve two consecutive three year terms. This past De-cember two RDA Board members – Jon Geitz and Ken Bazil reached their term limits, both serving on the RDA Board from 2008 to 2013.
The two new members are Bill Barnes, who was appointed from Emporia Enterprises replac-ing Jon Geitz and Pat Wiederholt, who was appointed by Lyon County replacing Ken Bazil.
In addition, Rob Gilligan was appointed a three-year term. Rob was appointed by the City of Emporia in the spring of 2013 to fill the unexpired term of Kevin Nelson.
The new officers of the RDA are Rob Gilligan Chair, Scott Briggs Vice-Chair, Mark McAnarney Treasurer and Jeanine McKenna Secretary. Kent Heermann serves as the President and Robin Nelson is the RDA Executive Assistant.
Emporia Enterprises Board of Directors had two board members who reached their term lim-its – Nick Laurent and Mike Sikes. The appointees replacing them are Jose Feliciano and Judy Schade. Bill Barnes was elected as President of Emporia Enterprises and Steve Brosemer was elected Vice- President.
At a recent International Economic Development Council (IEDC) meeting, a survey of Eco-nomic Development Organizations (EDO) and small business development results were quite similar in that both groups believe the economy is strong. There is a shortage of skilled labor, and then the uncertainty of Federal regulations and healthcare.
